The effects of mold on your health and how to stop them

If you ever encountered unpleasant symptoms like chronic fatigue, coughing, nausea or vomiting without a visible cause, then you might be exposing yourself to mold. There are a bunch of types of mold out there and each of them will affect your health in a certain manner when exposed to it long-term. Among the most common types of household molds, you will encounter Cladosporium (which looks green-greyish and has a powdery appearance), Aspergillus (which is almost black and grows extremely quickly) or Penicillium (which can be either green, white or blue and has a fuzzy appearance).

Yet, a certain type is more dangerous than others. It is called Stachybotrys or toxic black mold and it can show up on your home walls, ceilings, or any most area. It has plenty of dangerous effects on your health, such as cancer, headaches, asthma, dizziness or joint pain. This article is going to present some facts about it, some effects of it on your daily life and some methods to prevent and remove it.

Causes and prevention

The main causes of the apparition of mold in your house would be an overall indoor moisture, flooding, leaky roofs, indoor plumbing issues or not cleaning up regularly. Once the mold is already present, you can start removing it with bleach, ammonia, vinegar, citric fruits or baking soda. Spraying the affected area and letting it soak for a while then washing and drying should do the deed. Another thing you might want to opt for is to look for the best air purifier for mold and purchase it right away. It is suitable for both prevention and combating the effects of the mold after you’ve cleaned it up. A purified air is what you need for being healthy.

Regarding prevention, you should make sure that no moisture buildup is present in any of your rooms and inspect each room of your house for mold apparition. If you notice any signs that tell you the mold is going to appear in a certain spot, don’t wait for it to actually happen and wipe it down with materials that attack mold. If you are totally lost and unsure what you should do, consult someone who knows how to deal with this kind of situations to help you out. The air purifier combined with some prevention methods should do the job, so don’t worry much about it.

The main symptoms you might be experiencing when you are exposing yourself to mold include hair loss, irritation of the eyes, mucous membranes inflammation, painful or severe rashes, often headaches, high fever, allergic reactions, nose and throat problems, bleeding in the lungs, nose bleeds etc. The health implications of long exposure to mold are quite dangerous and left untreated or unsolved can actually lead to death. Since toxic black mold is so affecting the human body that it can lead to cancer, you can decide for yourself whether it is important to purify the air or not.
