Veterans are haunted by images of horror. They see people killed in front of them or grenades being thrown at them. In spite of the fact that they are decorated as war heroes by the government, old soldiers feel anything but heroic. They consider themselves oddballs. Most veterans who go through traumatic events develop post-traumatic stress disorder. It’s not enough that they have to readjust to normal life. GI’s have to cope with symptoms like nightmares or emotional numbness. Attention needs to be paid to the fact that veterans aren’t the only ones who can develop PTSD. Regular individuals are at risk of succumbing to mental illness. If you have complex post-traumatic stress disorder, don’t worry. You won’t have to see a psychiatrist for the rest of your life. Lean on a close friend or family member

Those suffering from mental health problems often seek refuge in prescription drugs. They take medication that drains their bodies of important vitamins and minerals, which leads to fatigue and depression. Taking pills isn’t the answer. Instead of taking antidepressants to fight the disease, you should better seek support from a friend or family member. Your loved ones are the only ones that can help. They will take your mind off things. The last thing that you’ll be contemplating about is the traumatic event. A friend or a family member doesn’t need specialist knowledge to help you out. No matter how much you’re hurting, everything will get better. Those closest to you won’t feel that you’re a burden. They are capable of understanding that you’re going through a tough time and will do their best to lift your mood. If you’re feeling down in the dumps, call on a friend or family member.

Try herbal remedies

Medicinal herbs are underrated. There are thousands, even millions, of healing plants and people couldn’t care less. It’s difficult for people to understand that herbs are powerful. If you’re always on your guard and feel like you’re trapped in a time capsule, consider herbal remedies. They can help with your post-traumatic stress disorder and the depression. PTSD very rarely occurs without depression, leaving people to treat their symptoms at rehabilitation centers for depression. Getting back on topic, there are many herbal remedies for mental illness, such as green tea, valerian, and stinging nettle. They are worth giving a try. The psychological effects of post-traumatic stress disorder are serious. While drinking green tea won’t make you feel like your old self again, it will certainly make you feel better. Let’s not forget about all the antioxidants that it contains.  

Resort to healthy distractions

A person that has PTSD experiences strong and uncomfortable emotions. But you don’t need anyone telling you that. You know just how difficult it can be to deal with fear, anger or shame. The best way to cope with uncomfortable emotions is to get a distraction. By distraction, we mean healthy distractions like reading a book or watching a movie. It’s preferable to not be alone. When you have too much time to yourself, you’re tempted to think about the past. The past is an essential part of who you are, but that doesn’t mean that you should focus your entire attention on it. Live in the present moment.
