17 Day Diet

The 17 day diet is one of the most known diets today. This diet was created by Dr. Mike Moreno and is recommended to those who want to drop some extra pounds without in a healthy way. The 17 day diet requires 4 cycles, during 68 days.

  • Stage 1 (days 1-17) or acceleration cycle – In this stage you are allowed to consume up to 1200 calories per day. You are allowed to eat fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy, lean meat without starch. During this cycle you should consume plenty of water and green tea. In this stage you will lose more water and less fat.
  • Stage 2 (days 18-34) or activation cycle – This cycle assumes to alternate days when you eat high-calorie meals with days with a lower caloric content. In this stage you are allowed to consume up to 1500 calories. You will lose more fat and less water.
  • Stage 3 (days 35-51) or stabilization cycle – This cycle of the 17 day diet assumes to get used to eat healthy. In this cycle, weight loss is more modest compared with the other two. You will eat more fruits and whole-grain cereals.
  • Stage 4 (days 52-68) is the final cycle – In this cycle you can eat foods of the first 2 cycles, except that on weekends you can eat all you want.

If you opt for a 17 day diet, you have to exclude any unhealthy food, sugar, sweets and processed foods.

  • In cycle 1 you can eat all non-starchy vegetables and lean protein, fruits low in sugar, good fats (olive oil or flaxseed oil) and drink green tea and water.
  • In cycle 2 you can eat foods similar to those of cycle 1, except that you have to reduce fats to one bowl and eat two servings of healthy carbohydrates. You are allowed to eat starchy vegetables, potatoes, brown rice, corn or pumpkin. This is the stage where days when you eat high-calorie meals must be alternated with days when you eat low-calorie meals.
  • Cycle 3 allows multiple combinations of healthy foods to help those who follow the 17 day diet to get used to eat healthy. In this stage you can eat fruits, protein (one serving), starchy products and one serving of alcohol. You can eat foods similar to those of stage 2.
  • Cycle 4 is the final cycle of the 17 day diet and once you came to this stage it means you reached the desired weight. In this stage you have to maintain the desired weight by eating foods of cycles 1 and 2 and on weekends you can eat all you want. Also, do not forget about exercise.
